Twice a decade, Congress passes a Farm Bill, which is a compilation of food and farm issues bundled into one massive package. As the U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee begins to debate the bill, we have an incredible opportunity to press for inclusion of some of our key animal protection bills. We must also be ready to fight against any efforts to add dangerous language that could hurt animals.
Please urge your U.S. Senator to support the inclusion of four animal welfare bills—the Dog and Cat Meat Trade Prohibition Act, the PACE Act, the PAWS Act, and the OFF Act—in the Farm Bill. These four bills already have tremendous bipartisan support and the Farm Bill is an ideal vehicle to get them passed.
Please also urge your Senator to oppose the inclusion of anything like Rep. Steve King's amendment (H.R. 4879) that was added to the House Farm Bill. His dangerous anti-states' rights legislation could undercut the will of the people and force state and localities to allow the sale of dangerous and inhumanely-produced products.
Please take a moment to call your U.S. Senator at 1-877-818-3649. You can say, "As your constituent, I urge you to support inclusion in the Farm Bill of critical animal protection bills—the PACE Act on animal fighting (S. 2971), the PAWS Act on domestic violence against pets (S. 322), the OFF Act to hold the USDA's checkoff programs accountable and prevent misuse of agriculture checkoff dollars to lobby against animal welfare reforms (S. 741), and the Dog and Cat Meat Trade Prohibition Act (H.R. 1406). Please also oppose inclusion of any language similar to Rep. Steve King's legislation—H.R. 4879 that he got added to the House Farm Bill. King's legislation poses a very real threat to animals and consumers across the country."
